| This inconspicuous but easily identified lichen is very common on the charred stumps where Michigan's great white pines once stood. The thallus consists of numerous overlapping, shell-shaped, olive to brown squamules. The raised free edge of the squamules reveals powdery soredia beneath. If present, lecideine apothecia are black. |
