Michael Estes

Michael Estes was elected in November 2016 to serve a six-year term through 2022. 

He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Western Michigan University in 1973 and an MBA in economics from Western in 1980. He is the president/owner of Estes Enterprises Inc., a private investment firm.

He served as Mayor of the City of Traverse City for six years, from November 2007 to November 2009, and again from November 2011 to November 2015. He has served as a member and officer for many local boards and civic groups including the Traverse City Downtown Development Authority, Traverse City Housing Task Force, Traverse City Light & Power and National Cherry Festival.

Currently he is a board member of Traverse Health Clinic and Great Lakes Fishery Commission. He and his wife Rhonda have three adult children and live in Traverse City, where he is an avid sailor, biker, hunter, fisherman, outdoor enthusiast and traveler.
