Please see the salary comparison of Michigan colleges spreadsheet for current analysis.

College goals:

  • Raise the salary for faculty that are beginning their careers at NMC to be competitive with our peers/market.
  • Be competitive with peer institutions at the top of our salary schedule. (NMC's current offer is benchmarked against state and national salary studies.)
  • Allow flexibility and responsiveness to learner and community needs.
  • Be clear and simple, promoting collaboration and effectiveness.
  • Balance the needs and desires of employees, taxpayers and learners.

Salary Comparison proposal:

Northwestern Michigan College Administration will review the following data in evaluating and determining faculty wage proposals during contract development:

  • AAUP (American Association of University Professors) Associate’s with ranks all combined category.
  • Michigan Community Colleges starting and maximum salary schedule. The salaries for masters, masters plus 15 and masters plus 30 will be used. The administration will review both the median and average in these two categories.
  • Northwestern Michigan College’s group within the state system of colleges of similar size.
    • For 2019 this is group 2 and includes 7 colleges including NMC.

The comparison groups are not limited to these sources. Other sources could be used if administration considers them relevant. These data points will inform NMC’s financial proposals.
