Computer Use at Osterlin Library
Library computers are provided primarily for the purpose of research and communications at NMC. Software cannot be downloaded or installed to a PC. Any files saved on the PC's hard drive will be removed when users log off or reboot. Use of PCs must conform to NMC's Computer and Network Acceptable Use Policy.
Printing to a black-and-white printer is free to NMC and University Center students. Color printing is .25 per page for all users. For public users of library PCs, black-and-white printing is .05 per page.
WIreless internet access
Osterlin Library has free Wi-Fi access. The network is unsecured, so security cannot be assured. The Wi-Fi network does not allow printing. Users wishing to print can bring or borrow a flash drive to print from a desktop PC in the library.
Using laptops in the library
Laptop users can access the Wi-Fi network in the library. Users cannot print from laptops. Since laptops and hardware vary so widely, NMC staff cannot help troubleshoot specific connection problems.
Library computers are primarily for the use of NMC’s students who are using them to do coursework. Library patrons who are not affiliated with NMC may use public computers. However, librarians may refuse access to non-NMC users during times of high demand. They also reserve the right to ask non-NMC and recreational users to give up their computers for NMC students who need them for educational or curriculum-related activities.
All users must comply with Staff Policy D-506.06: Computer and Network Acceptable Use.
Users of laptops may wish to have a flash drive to save and print documents. Users can also borrow a flash drive for temporary use while in the library.
Library PCs all have headphones connected. Laptop users can borrow headphones for temporary use while in the library.
