NMC 2013 Commencement exercises

TRAVERSE CITY — NMC will hold its annual Commencement exercises at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, in the gymnasium of Traverse City Central High School. The public is invited to attend or watch the ceremony streamed live online at www.nmc.edu/video.

Students who graduated Fall 2012 or Spring & Summer 2013 are eligible to participate in the ceremony. NMC's University Center partner Ferris State University will also participate. Tickets are not required for guests.

More than 600 individuals will earn degrees or certificates in the 2012-2013 academic year. Most, 40 percent, will earn an Associate of Science and Arts degree and will likely transfer to another institution to complete a bachelor's degree. Another 28 percent will receive an Associate of Applied Science degree. Eleven percent will receive an Associate of Nursing degree. Six percent will receive the Associate in General Studies and 14 percent earn professional certificates.

Saturday's ceremony will feature commencement speeches by NMC Student Government Association President Stephen Krygier and Kristy McDonald, winner of the 2012 Imogene Wise Faculty Excellence Award. The 2013 winner of that award and its companion, the Adjunct Faculty Excellence Award, will be announced, as will the 2013 winner of the annual Outstanding Alumni award.

NMC will also hold its annual Honors Convocation at 5 p.m. May 3 at the Dennos Museum Center. The event honors winners of the annual Academic Area scholarships, honors scholarships and Adult Student of the Year.
