Classic to contemporary

TRAVERSE CITY — The NMC Concert Band will present its fall concert under the baton of new conductor Pat Brumbaugh at 8 p.m. Oct. 24 in Milliken Auditorium.

Brumbaugh recently retired as director of bands at Traverse City West High School. She was voted Band Teacher of the Year in Michigan in 2006. Her 37-year career as a music educator included positions in Tennessee, Arkansas and Michigan. She will lead the band in a varied program featuring works ranging from classic composers like Peter Tschaikovsky and Hector Berlioz to contemporaries including Frank Ticheli and 2008 Grammy winner Eric Whitacre.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors (ages 62 and older) and children (ages 12 and younger) and available at the door. Admission for NMC students with student ID is free. Call the Milliken Auditorium Box Office at (231) 995-1553 for more information.

The NMC Concert Band was formed in 1973 and now totals more than 50 members. It is comprised of young, energetic high school and college students learning side-by-side with experienced adults. The band is a member of the Association of Concert Bands. Rehearsals are weekly throughout the academic year. The band's next performance will be a Dec. 8 holiday concert.
