2014 Commencement

TRAVERSE CITY — Commencement ceremonies for Northwestern Michigan College will be held Saturday, May 3 at 2 p.m. at the Traverse City Central High School gymnasium.  More than 200 of this year’s 700 graduates of NMC will march in the ceremony.

NMC degrees awarded include the Associate in Nursing, Associate in Science and Arts, Associate in Applied Science, Associate in General Studies, Certificate of Practical Nursing, Certificate of Achievement and the Bachelor of Science in Maritime Technology.

This year’s student speaker is Ryan Byers, President of the NMC Student Government Association. 

NMC social science instructor, Sonja Olshove, the 2013 Imogene Wise Faculty Excellence Award recipient, will also speak.

The Northwestern Michigan College Concert Band will perform during the ceremony, and the National Anthem will be performed by NMC music student Chiara Gerding.

The 2014 Outstanding Alumni award recipients will be named during the ceremony, as will this year’s winners of the Imogene Wise Faculty Excellence Award and the Adjunct Faculty of the Year Award.

Through the NMC University Center partnership, Ferris State University will award bachelor’s degrees in nursing, integrative studies, social work, science and the Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction.  Michigan State will award certificates in applied plant science and in viticulture.

A reception will follow the ceremony in the small gym
