Chinese students visit NMC

TRAVERSE CITY —  A group of ten 11, 12 and 13 year old Chinese students from Weiming Education Group are visiting Northwestern Michigan College for a few days, experiencing NMC’s College For Kids classes, dorm life and touring the Traverse City area.  The students at NMC are one of six Weiming Groups currently visiting Michigan educational entities.

Other Weiming groups are currently visiting Kent County Public Schools, Calvin College, Oxford Community Schools, Camp Storer and Adrian College.

The students visiting NMC hail from four Chinese regions, Shenzen, Chongqing, Guiyang, and Chengdu.  They are not only attending College for Kids classes daily, but during their stay, which extends through Tuesday, July 29 they will have attended a movie at the State Theatre, seen a play at the Old Town Playhouse, attended a Traverse City Beach Bums game, sailed on the Tall Ship Manitou, taken a field trip to Moomer’s Homemade Ice Cream, shopped at the Grand Traverse Mall, and visited the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

The students are traveling with a teacher from Weiming, and getting a real college experience by staying in the dorms at NMC.  They will also spend time during their stay with local host families.

The trip runs from July 18 through the 29.

NMC’s College for Kids courses are for kids ages three through 17.  There are more than 180 to choose from in everything from art, music, science, technology, dance, outdoor adventures and more.  New classes start each week from June 16 to August 15.
