Golfers, sponsors wanted for NMC Scholarship Open

TRAVERSE CITY — Northwestern Michigan College invites both players and sponsors to participate in the 35th annual Scholarship Open, set for Aug. 6 at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa, ranked as one of the top 75 golf resorts in North America by Golf Digest.

Organized by a committee of about 20 community volunteers, the event benefits merit-based scholarships at NMC. The Open has raised more than $1.4 million for student scholarships since it began in 1980.

The tournament has an 10 a.m. shotgun start on both The Bear and The Wolverine courses. Greens fees are $200 per person and include 18 holes with cart and the following:

  • A sleeve of Titleist PV1 golf balls
  • Participation in Yellow Ball, Longest Drive, Closest-to-the-Pin, and Hole-in-One contests  
  • Light breakfast, coffee, and Bloody Mary (cash) bar during registration
  • Complimentary lunch served at grill stations on the course
  • Three drink tickets to use on wine, beer, or soft drinks throughout the day, plus tasting stations provided by Short's Brewing Company, Hawthorne Vineyards, Bowers Harbor Vineyards, Hop Lot Brewing Company and Jimmy John's.  
  • An invitation to the post-tournament reception with hors d'oeuvres, great prizes, and contest results
  • The opportunity to win raffle prizes, including vacation and golf packages, and  a fantastic grand prize
