Dental Assistant Certificate Program Requirements

The following coursework may be taken in order to qualify for the Certificate of Achievement in Dental Assisting. Completion of the program qualifies students for the state board exam and after passing the exam, they may practice as Registered Dental Assistants. In addition, program completers are eligible for the National Certification exam which is recognized nationwide. While the associate degree is not required for either of these exams, the majority of students complete the associate degree after completion of the certificate. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Enrollment in any Dental Assistant (HDA) course requires admission to the dental assistant program OR approval from the dental assistant program director.

The following are required for admission:

  • High school or college transcript 2.0 minimum GPA, or successful GED completion
  • Mathematics: MTH 23* or placement into MTH 111 or higher
  • Communications: Placement into ENG 111, or completion of ENG 99* and/or ENG 108 based on COMPASS test scores

* MTH 23 and ENG 99 credits do not count toward degree requirements.
