Paramedic Program Requirements

Associate in Applied Science Degree (AAS) – Paramedic – NMC Code 310

Northwestern Michigan College (NMC) and Munson Regional EMS have partnered to offer an Associate in Applied Science Degree (AAS) with a Paramedic focus. All general education classes are offered at NMC. All paramedic classes are offered through Munson Regional EMS. It is designed so students can transfer 43 paramedic credits from Munson Regional EMS to NMC. Once an additional 18 or more general education credits are completed as identified in the NMC program map, the student will earn an AAS – Paramedic.

Admission Requirements:

  • Provide a copy of your EMT-Basic license or NREMT Certificate and provide evidence of:
    • A minimum of 1 year of experience with a transporting ALS unit or
    • A minimum of 2 years of experience on a non-transporting BLS unit or
    • Completion of an EMT to Paramedic Fast Track Externship (MREMSE EMT-B graduates only)
  • Complete an application for admissions through NMC
  • Request to have an official High School transcript sent to the Admissions Office
  • Once an admission letter is obtained, schedule an orientation session.
  • Take the required placement test or submit your ACT scores prior to orientation.
  • Meet with an academic advisor
  • Bring placement testing scores to paramedic program contact at Munson Regional EMS

Placement Testing Requirements:

Students must place into MTH 111 – Intermediate Algebra. If they do not, students must take MTH 23 –Beginning Algebra and earn a 2.0 or better. 

  • SAT
    • 530 or above for Math (or equivalent course work) within five years of program entry. The Accuplacer test may be taken to demonstrate current math skills.
  • ACT
    • 21 or above for Math (or equivalent course work) within five years of program entry. The Accuplacer test may be taken to demonstrate current math skills.
  • Accuplacer
    • 50 or above (or equivalent course work) within five years of program entry.

Program Completion:

  • Complete at least 60 credit hours with a 2.0 or higher cumulative grade point average
  • Complete a minimum of 15 of the 60 credits through NMC
  • Apply for graduation by completing the Application for Degree available online or in the Records & Registration Office on the main floor of the Tanis Building.
  • Request an official document from Munson Regional EMS contact to confirm successful completion of the Paramedic program.
  • Submit a copy of your Paramedic National Registry Certification to the NMC Records & Registration Office
