New Program - Fall 2013
Available for academic credit or as continuing education.
Learn to coach basketball. Gain essential knowledge, skills, and hands-on practice to be an effective coach. Successful students will receive an NMC certificate of completion and be prepared to be a more effective coach for elementary and middle school students.
The program is designed with the first two weeks (15 hours) in the classroom followed by a six-week (60 hour) internship coaching an elementary girls or boys basketball team.
Much of the content is based on the MHSAA (Michigan High School Athletic Association) Coaches Advancement Program (CAP) and includes psychology of coaching, teaching skills and rules, player ability and development, communicating with players and parents, practice and game management, and more.
The internship portion of the class consists of a six-week mentored coaching experience in an elementary school to gain experience and hone your skills. Options will be available for boys or girls teams within TCAPS.
