8 weeks, June 14-Aug. 9, Access anytime. Each music era of Western culture will be examined in regards to significant composers and compositions while listening to these great works and discussing the elements that made them come alive and move people's hearts through the ages. Experience the soothing Gregorian Chant of the Medieval period, the lively music of the Renaissance, the motion and ornamentation of the Baroque style, the refinement and maturity of the Classical era, the stirring emotion of the Romantic period, and the many harmonic and rhythmic surprises of twentieth-century music. You do not need to have any musical background or training to enjoy and succeed in this class. NMC ID/Password required--available through NMC Help Desk 231-995-3020. Course may also be taken for academic credit as MUS 110. Cost does not include text.

NMC Summer Concert Band (Face to Face)— 2021-06-22 through  2021-06-29$50— Face to FaceView Details

Rehearsals: 3 days, June 22, 24 and 29, 7-9 p.m. at the Large Outdoor Tent outside Milliken Auditorium on NMC Main Campus. 2 Performances: Sat., July 3, 7 p.m. in Leland; AND Tues., July 13, 7 p.m. at Grand Traverse Pavilions. You can be part of NMC's Summer Concert Band program. Made up of community members and college students who play traditional instruments, the summer program consists of three rehearsals and two concerts spread over the summer in outdoor venues. You will need at least an upper high school level competency in your instrument. Participants need to register through NMC Extended Education either online or by phone (231-995-1700). All participants must remain masked and socially-distanced when not playing. Bell covers and other COVID safety gear will be provided.
