Be safe in your kayak this summer

Would you know what to do if your kayak flipped? Do you know how to get back onboard in deep water? Learn important self-rescue techniques in the one-evening course Recreational Kayak Safety on Monday, July 11. You'll learn how to brace, how to exit and re-enter your kayak, and how to empty the water so you can continue on your journey. Discover important safety gear, what to have handy, and how to use it. Learn and practice simple but effective ways to plan for safe use of your kayak this summer. Includes important information about weather, dress, cold water, and deep water paddling. Register two people and save $9 (discount only available for phone-in registrations). Bring your kayak, paddle, and life jacket.

Workshop is Monday, July 11, 5:30–8:30 p.m.
Meet at Hull Park Boat Launch (on Hannah St., west of Woodmere Ave., behind the Traverse Library)
Instructor is Eric Clone, a lifelong paddler, an American Canoe Association Certified Open Water Instructor, and a Wilderness First Responder. Presently, Eric is the owner of Boardman Peddle and Paddle in Traverse City.
