All Things Fresh Water
All Things Fresh Water explores the Great Lakes and water-related issues in a series of three critical topics guided by NMC's Water Studies staff, Hans VanSumeren and Constanza Hazelwood.
- Deep Dive: Understanding the Great Lakes looks at the science and technology used to study and monitor the Great Lakes, including sonar investigation and remotely operated submarine video.
- Liquid Assets: The Economics of Fresh Water explores the U.S. and global water infrastructure, challenges and the value of fresh water for personal consumption, industry and agriculture.
- Triple Bottom Line: The Integration of Water, Agriculture and Energy looks at regional and global challenges in finding appropriate technologies to produce energy and food without depleting or diminishing water quality.
The course meets 3 Thursdays,Nov. 1-15, 5-7 p.m. at NMC's Great Lakes Campus, Rm 112. The cost is $65; $54 if you qualify for the LIFE Discount (age 62+ and resident of Grand Traverse County). This course is part of the Naturalist Program, a continuing education certificate program focusing on the Great Lakes area natural environment. Courses may be taken without enrollment in the certificate.
