Program: elementary education

The Elementary Education program requires the completion of two elementary education teaching minors or one elementary education teaching major in addition to a planned program to fulfill the subject area requirements of the program. Students may choose from the subject areas of biology, mathematics, social studies, English, language arts, and early childhood. Elementary education teaching majors are only available in the subject areas of biology, mathematics, and social studies. The early childhood minor is an optional minor and is in addition to the subject area major or minors required.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

  1. Students must have a 2.5 GPA -
  2. Ferris requires a 2.0 for all transfered classes. If coursework applying to the teaching major and minor and professional teacher education classes are older than 10 years, Ferris won't accept it towards their teacher certification.
  3. Admission to the teacher ed. program will be determined at the department level and GPA requirements may vary. For assistance call 1 800 4 FERRIS and ask for Mary Cline or Betsy Brown.
  4. All students must pass all sections of the Michigan Basic Skills Test. The test is given only four times a year and must be taken before you will be able to take certain education courses at Ferris.
  5. It is strongly recommended the student make contact with Ferris as soon as possible. Program requirements are subject to change.
  6. The courses below do not meet Associate in Science and Arts requirements, they do meet the MACRAO agreement. Ferris's school of Education does not recognize the MACRAO agreement. If you wish to have an Associate degree see a counselor for details. Depending upon major and minor selection, completion of the degree may be achieved. Speak with an Advisor at Ferris, or a counselor at N.M.C. for specific classes taken at N.M.C. for your choice of major and minor.
