Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Radiation Therapy (Grand Rapids campus)

General Concentration

(Abdominal and Obstetrics-Gynecology)
Diagnostic Medical Sonography is a radiologic and imaging sciences specialty with nine subspecialties. This emphases prepares students for clinical practice in abdominal and obstetrics-gynecology. Vascular sonography is an elective option that may be taken concurrently

Echocardiography Concentration

(Adult Echocardiography and Pediatric Echocardiography or Vascular Sonography)
Diagnostic Medical Sonography is a radiologic and imaging sciences specialty with nine subspecialties. This emphases prepares students for clinical practice in adult echocardiography and either pediatric echocardiography or vascular sonography.

Radiation Therapy

Radiation Therapy is a radiologic and imaging sciences specialty that is an essential part of the multi-disciplinary field of radiation oncology. Radiation Therapists practice in a cooperative effort between medical and radiation oncology physicians, medical physicists, dosimetrists and oncology nurses and dietitians.

Admission Criteria

  1. Admission is competitive, there is no wait list. See #4 for specific admission criteria.
  2. Applications are due by February 1st for the following Fall, however students will likely need to take classes at GVSU prior to applying and should contact GVSU as soon as possible
  3. Students will still need to take additional classes at GVSU prior to applying for this program

Basic Requirements

The following courses will complete requirements for an Associate in Arts degree, and most of the general education requirements from GVSU. Students are strongly encouraged to stay in contact with a GVSU advisor for any program updates. 

NOTE: Both a World Perspective and a U.S. Diversity course are required to receive a bachelor's degree from GVSU. NMC courses that transfer as World Perspective or US Diversity can be chosen from Humanities or Social Science and will double count. For example, ANT 113 will count as both a Social Science and a World Perspective class. Refer to GVSU's general education guide: http://gvsu.edu/gened/

Upon request at the NMC Records and Registration Office, a statement will be placed on your transcript, "MICHIGAN TRANSFER AGREEMENT (MTA) SATISFIED."
