NMC transfer guide - MACRAO

To: Michigan State University - Main Campus

Program: ELI BROAD COLLEGE OF Business

  1. Admission Applications - MSU requires students to submit applications online at admissions.msu.edu/apply.asp
  2. GPA - 3.4 or higher - Admission to the Eli Broad School of Business program is competitive. A higher GPA may be necessary. See chart below for GPA consideration into majors.
  3. Junior Status - Students who are transferring 56 or more credit hours and have the prerequisite classes completed will be considered for direct admission into the College of Business.
  4. Repeat Grades - MSU averages all grades received, all courses attempted, all schools attended.
  5. Transferable Credits - MSU requires that one half of the degree requirements be completed at a four-year institution. Credits taken beyond 60 may still meet requirements, but students who accumulate more than 60 credits at NMC are still required to complete one half of their degree at a four-year school.
  6. Grades in Business Core - Core Business courses (computer, accounting, and economics) must have a minimum 3.2 combined average with at least a 2.0 in each course.
  7. Transfer Grades - Courses below 2.0 are not transferable to MSU.
  8. Limited number of admissions - Each major limits the number of admission spots. Early application is desirable because of competition for available spots. The same admission criteria have been established for MSU students. It is not recommended that applicants seek admission to MSU in a different major thinking they can transfer to the College of Business later.
  9. Scholarships - A limited number of scholarships are available at admissions.msu.edu/finances/scholarships_transfer.asp
  10. Dual Enrolled Course Policies - College courses counted toward "core" high school requirements may not transfer to MSU. For Dual Enrollment questions, contact MSU's transfer credit evaluators via e-mail at traneval@msu.edu.
  11. Transfer Visitation Program - Visit MSU on-line to make a reservation, admissions.msu.edu/visitCampus/default.asp.

Special Note: It is recommended that you complete HST 111 or HST 112 (U.S. History) at NMC. Although it is not absolutely required, taking the combination of ENG 111/112 and U.S. History classes at NMC eliminates the need to take Integrated Arts and Humanities 201 at MSU.

Science/Math (Choose one option)

Option 1

Option 2

Calculus I - Calculus I does not need to be complete prior to transferring to MSU. If you take MTH 141 at NMC, you will need to first complete MTH 121 (College Algebra) and MTH 122 (Trig) OR MTH 140 College Algebra and Trig prior to taking MTH 141.

Students who do not choose to take Calculus I at NMC are still eligible for admission consideration into a Business major. At a minimum, students must complete MTH 111 at NMC to be considered for admission to MSU. It is strongly recommended that NMC's MTH 121 (College Algebra) be completed before taking MSU's MTH 124 (Survey of Calculus I) at MSU.
