NMC Transfer Guide - MTA

To: Michigan Technological University - Main Campus

Program: Engineering

2 + 2 OR Traditional Application

Northwestern Michigan College, in conjunction with Michigan Tech, offers a 2 + 2, inter-institutional program leading to the BS degree in Engineering. Students are selected in to this program at NMC with the same admissions or curriculum transfer criteria that is used at MTU for all engineering applicants. The students who successfully complete the first 2 years of the program at NMC are automatically enrolled as juniors at MTU.

However, students not part of the 2 + 2 program can also apply to MTU through the traditional route. Early application is necessary.

For more information on these programs please contact Academic Advising 231-995-1040 or the Engineering Advisor, Health & Science Building, 231-995-1270.

Engineering Majors

Various engineering majors are available. The following guide shows NMC courses to take as preparation for the following majors.

  1. Biomedical Engineering
  2. Chemical Engineering
  3. Civil Engineering
  4. Computer Engineering
  5. Electrical Engineering
  6. Environmental Engineering
  7. Geological Engineering
  8. Materials Science and Engineering
  9. Mechanical Engineering

See MTU's Engineering guides for specific majors for additional information.

Basic Requirements

Following this guide will complete MTA requirements and meet NMC's Associate of Science and Arts Degree Requirements.

Note: Courses not numbered will work for engineering majors 1–9 listed previously. Courses only for specific program(s) are followed by its number(s) in parenthesis.

Note: If a student has already completed 24 credits in Communication, Social Science and/or Humanities but does not yet have the MTA met, the student should contact Jean Burish at (906) 487-1621 prior to scheduling classes in these three areas to discuss options.
