The educational program leading to the Bachelor of Science in Forestry is accredited by the Society of American Foresters (SAF). SAF is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council on Post- secondary Accreditation and by the U.S. Department of Education as the body forestry in the United States.

Forestry is a highly diversified field. Career opportunities exist in various public agencies as well as in private industry. Graduates may be employed as forest land managers or as specialists in such disciplines as forestry measurements, soils or municipal forestry. Further opportunities exist in areas of wood science and forest product utilization.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

Because of the specificity of the program, Forestry majors may find it to their advantage to transfer after one year at NMC, completing only part of this guides suggestions. However, those choosing to stay longer may follow the entire guide.

HUMANITIES, SOCIAL SCIENCE, AND COMMUNICATION FOR MTU GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Note: As part of their General Education requirements, Michigan Tech requires a total of 25 credits in Communication, Social Science and/or Humanities. Three of these credits must be at the junior or senior level. One class from the each of the two Humanities at MTU and Social Science lists below are required. Additional NMC classes from the above categories that will transfer as Distribution Requirements are listed at this link:

MTU Distribution Requirements (16 credits) If ENG 111 (4) and ENG 112 (4) listed at beginning of the guide are taken, then 8 credits from this list may be chosen.
