What is the ‘Living by Leading and Learning Community’?

Two communities sharing the same floor in NMC’s East Hall and North Hall that are intended to foster friendships and create a home away from home environment, thus improving the college experience through on-campus living.

You can choose to participate in either one of these OPTIONAL programs:

Living by Leading

You will find tomorrow’s leaders here. Residents in this community will have the opportunity to participate in leadership workshops, activities, and go to conferences across the country!

  • Monthly leadership program with speakers, team building and other fun activities
  • One service activity per semester – choose on campus or in Traverse City
  • Opportunities to serve student organizations on campus or at the state, regional or even national levels
  • Attend one leadership conference/year

Living by Learning

The purpose of this community is to build lifelong learners. Residents will have access to extra academic success tools—and you might find yourself meeting your professors right at home—through twice monthly programs on:

  • Note taking and study skills
  • Test taking skills
  • Time management
  • Resume building and interview skills

Who is eligible? The Living by Leading and Learning Communities are open to any resident of East Hall or North Hall. The Leadership community is opened to residents that have had involvement in high school/college and/or community. Residents must have over a 2.0 high school/college GPA and be seeking to enhance their leadership skills. The Learning Community is a requirement for those accepted into housing with a 2.0 or under.
