NMC Student Success Center offers Free College Prep Workshops to help students prepare for their college journey.

Free College Math Prep Workshops

If you haven't taken a math course in awhile or would like to improve your math skills, this workshop if for you! This short workshop could help you to increase your Placement score, allowing you to start in a higher math class.

These three-day online intensive workshops with live instruction will help you prep for your first college math class. Sections are split into two groups: those who are looking to dust off their skill set and review for placement in higher-level courses (Math Refresher), and those who are hoping to find some peace with math and looking to develop their skill set to place well on the test and increase their academic strength going forward (Intro to College Math).

This course can provide a distinct advantage in where you start your math sequence and can save you time and money. Students should plan to complete the placement test by contacting (231) 995-2134. They will receive Zoom links shortly before class begins.

  • June 8, 15 & 22, 5:30–8:30 p.m. — Intro to College Math
  • June 9, 16 & 23, 5:30–8:30 p.m. — Math Refresher
  • August 10, 17 & 24, 5:30–8:30 p.m. — Intro to College Math
  • August 11, 18 & 25, 5:30–8:30 p.m. — Math Refresher

Free College Reading/Writing Prep Workshops

Want a head start on what college is like in 2021? Sign up for a FREE college reading/writing prep workshop! We'll go through what to expect in your English class as well as how to connect with the resources you'll need to be successful.

College Writing Prep will help prepare students to succeed in college writing, a foundational part of a college education. Meeting One will focus on a specific resources available at NMC. Meeting Two will focus on active reading strategies, genres of academic writing, and the role of research. We will also discuss the role of rubrics, asking for feedback, and the invention process. We also want to respond to your questions. Please join us to learn more about expectations for college writing and the practices that will help you make the grade.
