The Lifelong Leadership Journey… Where Does it Start?

Headshot Betsy WilliamsBY: BETSY WILLIAMS, NMC TRAINING SPECIALIST

If you search the word “leadership” on Google, you get over 800 million results. Each definition is as unique as an individual leader.

So what does leadership mean to you? To me personally, the definition of leadership is the ability to motivate a team of people to achieve a common goal. Certainly easier said than done.

According to a recent survey conducted by Fortune, only 7 percent of CEOs believe their companies are building effective global leaders and just 10 percent said their leadership development initiatives have a clear business impact.

New supervisors and leaders need to be able to transition from a technical role to one of leadership  it’s an occupational change!

The first step in leadership lifelong learning comes in understanding the differences in yourself and others on your team. You then need to focus on your team. What are the strengths and weaknesses within your team? With that foundational knowledge, you can then expand your communication tools. An emphasis needs to be given on both effective listening and communicating your message.

At NMC Training Services, we are excited to offer a new workshop series for emerging leaders. The series is called Essentials of Leadership. Find upcoming dates and more information here.

"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader." — John Quincy Adams
