It’s Contagious – All the Hype about Manufacturing!

The region’s fifth annual Manufacturing Day was on Friday, October 5, and over 40 local manufacturers and near 1,000 students shared the spirit of making great things in northern Michigan. Local junior high and high school students got a first-hand look at what a career in manufacturing could look like for them. Students saw how their skills, interests, and passions can directly tie to career opportunities in manufacturing—and they got excited.

Not only northern Michigan, but the whole state got behind the day.  According to Mike Coast, President of the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center, “For the third year in a row, Michigan led the nation in Manufacturing Day events and that’s not a coincidence. Manufacturing is vitally important to our state, and our manufacturers are passionate about their businesses. Manufacturing Day is a valuable opportunity to show students, parents, and teachers the variety of high-skilled jobs and rewarding careers available in today’s modern manufacturing.”

That excitement also comes out in an article written by Mark Urban of the Record Eagle captured on the day at Hayes Manufacturing. See related article here »

Emily Challender, fourth-generation manufacturer and chair of this year’s successful event, was showcased at NMC. See her story here »

The community as a whole was supportive of the day, and a special thank you to our Traverse City Jimmy John’s for supplying lunch to over 40 volunteers.

If you would like to get involved in next year’s Manufacturing Day or other events throughout the year, let us know and we will be happy to share the contagious spirit.
