Recertification/Planned Programs/Professional Certification

Ferris State University

A professional teaching certification follows the provisional teaching certificate as the next level of certification.

To obtain a professional teaching certificate, you must do the following:
• Hold a provisional certificate
• Complete a program plan as developed by you, your Ferris advisor, and Ferris Certification Officer
• Have taught successfully for three years in the grade levels and subjects for which you are certified.
Note: Substitute teaching in any grade level may count. See the Ferris advisor.*

* New guidelines for advancing to the Professional Education Certificate and the NEW Advanced Professional Education Certificate have been approved by the Michigan Superintendent of Public Instruction. Please contact the FSU office for current information.
