NMC Transfer Guide
To: Ferris State University - Main Campus
Program: Dental Hygiene
Ferris State University offers an Applied Associate degree in Dental Hygiene. Successful completion of the program grants you eligibility to take the licensing examinations necessary to practice dental hygiene. The program is a three-year program, with the first year considered the prerequisite (pre-professional) year, with the second and third years being devoted to the dental hygiene professional courses. The courses you take at NMC are part of the prerequisite (pre-professional) courses and you must complete the courses with a 2.0 to be acceptable at FSU. Please make contact with FSU as soon as possible. For information please contact (231) 591-2261 or (231) 591-2270. Application must be made from Feb 1–15 for the following fall. This is a fall start program and there is no waiting list kept, so application must be made each year. Students may apply Feb 1–15 while still completing admission requirements in the Spring semester but those who already completed admission criteria in the Fall semester will be have priority in the admission for that year.
Admission Criteria
- A 2.5 cumulative GPA is required for admission into the program (2.7 if less than 12 transferrable credits - consult FSU if you are not sure).
- A 2.0 cumulative GPA is required in the major and overall for graduation from the dental hygiene program.
- A grade of 2.0 or better must be earned (within two attempts) in all courses on this guide. All courses on this guide - except ENG 112 - are considered to be the pre-professional courses and are required prior to applying for admission into the professional sequence.
- Students applying to the dental hygiene program are accepted as pre-professionals students if they do not have the pre-professional sequence completed.
- All science and math courses must be taken within 5 years of application to your professional sequence.
