Program: Dental Hygiene

Ferris State University offers an Applied Associate degree in Dental Hygiene. Successful completion of the program grants you eligibility to take the licensing examinations necessary to practice dental hygiene. The program is a three-year program, with the first year considered the prerequisite (pre-professional) year, with the second and third years being devoted to the dental hygiene professional courses. The courses you take at NMC are part of the prerequisite (pre-professional) courses and you must complete the courses with a 2.0 to be acceptable at FSU. Please make contact with FSU as soon as possible. For information please contact (231) 591-2261. Admission is competitive and application must be made from Jan.15–31 for the following fall. This is a fall start program and there is no waiting list, therefore there is no guarantee of admission.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

  1. A 2.5 cumulative GPA is required for admission into the program
  2. A 2.0 cumulative GPA is required in the major and overall for graduation from the dental hygiene program.
  3. A grade of 2.0 or better must be earned (within two attempts) in MTH 23, HAH 101, COM 111, CHM 150, BIO 208, BIO 227, BIO 228, SOC 101, PSY 101, ENG 111 and a cultural enrichment course. These courses are considered the pre-professional courses and are required prior to applying for admission into the professional sequence.
  4. Students applying to the dental hygiene program are accepted as pre-professionals students if they do not have the pre-professional sequence completed. Once completed students apply directly to the program.
  5. All science and math courses must be taken within 5 years of application to your professional sequence.
