Program: Elementary Education - Language Arts Major (In Traverse City)
It is essential that you make contact with Grand Valley immediately for changes in their education program. Please call (231) 995-1785.
Completion of this program and passing the state certification exams will result in recommendation for Elementary certification with a Language Arts major. This Elementary Provisional Certificate will allow the student to teach grades K–5 in all subjects and grades 6–8 in language arts.
ADMISSION CRITERIA
Students should contact the GVSU advisor for the program at the number listed as soon as possible for further information.
- Grand Valley requires a 2.5 GPA for admission to the university and approximately a 2.7 GPA — established at GVSU — for admission to most education programs.
- MTH 106 and 206, and the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts or Science program should be completed by the start of the program.
- Grand Valley has a financial aid consortium agreement with NMC enabling you to use financial aid for both schools. Once you apply to GVSU and are accepted, financial aid will be processed through Grand Valley. Contact financial aid for assistance.
- There will be additional requirements (state required testing, observations, etc.) set forth by GVSU for admission into the teacher education program. Please keep in contact with GVSU's advisor. Contact (231) 995-1785 or (888) 922-1785 for further information.
Completion of the credits on this guide will result in an NMC Associate in Science and Arts degree. Upon request at the NMC Records and Registration Office, a statement will be placed on your transcript, "MICHIGAN TRANSFER AGREEMENT (MTA) SATISFIED".
