NMC Transfer Guide - MTA

To: Grand Valley State University - Main Campus

Program: RN to BSn - Nursing

Today's nurses must not only be prepared to provide expert nursing care but also be able to help transform health care in hospitals and other settings. In the Grand Valley State University Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, students have the opportunity to develop the professional knowledge, skills and attitudes to meet these challenges. The RN to BSN curriculum prepares graduates to provide holistic evidence-based nursing care to individuals, families and communities.

general admission criteria

Students apply as a degree-seeking student with declaration of nursing as their major to the baccalaureate program using the GVSU Office of Admissions application form and apply to the RN-BSN program by completing the KCON secondary application form. To determine when to apply, individual students should first meet with the GVSU KCON Regional Nursing Program Coordinator (above).

Admission to the program requires a minimum grade of "C (2.0)" in each pre-requisite course and a minimum GPA of 3.0 overall. Academic performance for the last 15 credits may be considered. Please contact the KCON Regional Nursing Programs Coordinator (listed above) with questions regarding how GPA is calculated.

NMC ADN students admitted to the KCON RN-BSN program will enroll in sessions at GVSU while simultaneously completing the NMC ADN program. Students will be required to register and pay tuition and fees at each respective institution when concurrently enrolled.

Students will be eligible to continue enrollment in the KCON RN-BSN program upon graduation from the ADN program at NMC and the successful completion of all other KCON RN-BSN program prerequisites including, but not limited to, a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher at graduation from the ADN program, a grade of 2.5 or higher in each ADN required nursing course, and completion of all other prerequisite course work. Prior to enrollment in the 400-level nursing courses in the KCON RN-BSN program, the student must complete and maintain comprehensive health compliance obligations. Evidence of active unrestricted RN licensure in Michigan is also required before beginning the 400-level courses in the KCON RN-BSN program.

Basic Requirements

The following courses will complete requirements for an Associate in Arts degree and MTA. Students are strongly encouraged to stay in contact with a GVSU advisor above for any program updates.

NOTE: Both a Global Perspective and a U.S. Diversity course are required to receive a bachelor's degree from GVSU. NMC courses that transfer as Global Perspective or US Diversity can be chosen from Humanities or Social Science and will double count and are listed below. For example, ANT 113 will count as both a Social Science and a Global Perspective class.

Upon request at the NMC Records and Registration Office, a statement will be placed on your transcript, "MICHIGAN TRANSFER AGREEMENT (MTA) SATISFIED."
