Admission Requirements

All social work majors formally apply to the School of Social Work at the end of their sophomore year. Application materials must be completed and submitted by September 30th for winter admission

To be eligible for consideration of candidacy, students must have:

Completed all freshman and sophomore course requirements in the B.S.W curriculum.
Complete the application and process for candidacy for the B.S.W. degree.
A minimum grade point average of 2.0. Earned grade of 2.7 in selected courses below as indicated with an *. (Since GVSU requires a 2.7 and NMC does not grant a 2.7 grades, it is necessary to achieve a 3.0 to transfer these courses)
Effective Fall 2010: grades earned at another institution in the courses listed with an * will be considered for admission into the School of Social Work and must meet the grade and repeat criteria: earn a minimum grade of 3.0 at NMC and have not repeated the courses more than once.

Basic Requirements

The following courses will complete requirements for an Associate in Arts degree, and most of the general education requirements from GVSU. Students are strongly encouraged to stay in contact with a GVSU advisor for any program updates.

NOTE: Both a Global Perspective and a U.S. Diversity course are required to receive a bachelor's degree from GVSU. NMC courses that transfer as Global Perspective or US Diversity can be chosen from Humanities or Social Science and will double count. For example, ANT 113 will count as both a Social Science and a Global Perspective class. Refer to GVSU's general education guide: gvsu.edu/gened/

Upon request at the NMC Records and Registration Office, a statement will be placed on your transcript, "MICHIGAN TRANSFER AGREEMENT (MTA) SATISFIED."
