NMC Transfer Guide - MTA

Students wishing to be Elementary Education teachers must complete a major in Professional Education. Elementary Education Provisional Certification allows teachers to instruct all subjects in grades K-5, and only their major and minor subject areas in grades 6, 7, 8.
Admission Criteria
- Apply – Students must first submit an application for undergraduate admission to the MSU Office of Admission indicating intention to earn a teaching certificate.
- Application for direct transfer – MSU will then provide access to the College of Education Direct Transfer online application to students who have met the following criteria:
- Transfer of at least 42 credits
- Completion of all remedial courses (e.g., MTH 111)
- 3.1 or higher GPA
- Completion of SAT
- Evidence-Based Reading and Writing: 480 or higher
- Mathematics: 530 or higher
- Transfer Credits – MSU accepts a maximum of 60 community college credits.
- Application deadline – Students should apply as early as possible.
- Student who are not eligible for direct transfer may transfer to MSU and the apply to the teacher preparation program through the regular MSU undergraduate application process.
- Scholarships – Students who have a 3.5 GPA or above should consult with their NMC advisor to discuss possible transfer scholarship opportunities at MSU.

Basic Requirements
The following courses are listed to facilitate transfer and fulfill University requirements at MSU. These courses fulfill MTA requirements, but may not fulfill requirements for the Associate of Arts or Science degree at NMC. If your goal is to complete an associate's degree before transferring, see an advisor for assistance.
Upon request at the NMC Records and Registration Office, a statement will be placed on your transcript, "MICHIGAN TRANSFER AGREEMENT (MTA) SATISFIED".
