Students completing a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice take classes encompassing a basic understanding of the field as well as specialized professional development in law enforcement, corrections, or security administration. Students are prepared for entry level positions as law enforcement officers, corrections officers, juvenile and adult probation and parole officers, and security management trainees. All major/minor courses must be completed with grades of 2.25 or better.

Admission Requirements

1. Completion of at least 46 semester credits
2. General admission to NMU
3. 2.25 Overall GPA is required
4. 2.00 required in all CJ courses

Basic Requirements

Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA): Students who transfer to Northern Michigan University from a Michigan community college who have Michigan Transfer Agreement Satisfied posted on their transcript will be considered to have met the requirements of NMU’s Liberal Studies/General Education program. Students will still be expected to complete all other degree requirements, including graduation requirements (world cultures, health promotions, and lab) and any courses listed as “Other Required Courses” that may also be Liberal Studies/General Education courses. Transfer students who do not complete the entire block of courses required by the MTA will receive credit for courses they do complete on the basis of individual evaluation and established transfer equivalencies.

If you do not fulfill the MTA agreement, you will need to use 2 transfer guides to fulfill NMU's Division requirements: this guide and General Education Without MTA. For more information on MTA, please contact an advisor at NMC or NMU Representative Gillian Seguin at (906) 235-7421.

Upon request at the NMC Records and Registration Office, a statement will be placed on your transcript, "MICHIGAN TRANSFER AGREEMENT (MTA) SATISFIED".

Humanities
Select 2 courses representing 2 departments from the Group 1 Humanities list
You may choose HST 211 Native American History, HUM 116 World Cultures, or PHL 122 Eastern Religions to fulfill both the World Cultures and 1 Humanities choice. Or, if you fulfill World Cultures with a social science choice, ANT 113 Cultural Anthropology or GEO 109 World Regional Geography, select a Humanities class from the link above.
Natural Science
Select 2 courses representing 2 departments from the Group 1 Natural Science list including one LECTURE/LAB		6
Social Science
Choose 2 additional Social Science Division courses
You may choose ANT 113 Cultural Anthropology or GEO 109 World Regional Geography to fulfill World Cultures. OR If you fulfill World Cultures with one of the Humanities choices: HST 211 Native American History, HUM 116 World Cultures, or PHL 122 Eastern Religions select an additional Social Science from the link above.)
