NMC transfer guide

To: Northern Michigan University - Main Campus

Program: Pre-Medical

Pre-Med is a direction, not a major. Students are best prepared for medical school by completing a regular academic program involving a major and minor, with the addition of the biology, chemistry, math, and physics courses listed in this guide. Most successful pre-medical students elect majors in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or psychology because these majors provide the kind of academic background that medical schools require.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

Liberal Studies courses—except Composition—must be taken outside the department in which the student is completing a first major or minor, unless major/minor is General Science or Social Studies.

NMU is a participating member of the MACRAO Transfer Agreement. Students transferring directly from NMC with the MACRAO stamp will have fulfilled divisions 1-4 of the Liberal Studies program at NMU. If you attend another college (2 yr. or 4 yr.) before attending NMC—or before you receive the MACRAO stamp—the MACRAO agreement will not apply to your NMU transfer. If you do not fulfill the MACRAO agreement, you will need to use 2 transfer guides to fulfill NMU's Division requirements: this guide and General Education Without MACRAO. For more information on the MACRAO stamp, please contact a counselor at NMC or NMU.
