NMC Transfer Guide - MTA

To: University of Michigan - Main Campus

Program: Business Administration

The Ross School of Business is committed to action-based learning, an approach to instruction that exposes both students and faculty to real-world challenges faced by actual businesses and organizations. Their goal is prepare graduates to lead diverse teams, consider the role of business in society, and build organizational cultures that foster innovation. Information on the Bachelor's of Business Administration is here.

Admission Criteria

  1. Admission is highly selective. About 1% of last year's entering class were admitted as transfer students. Some students transfer to U of M's College of Literature, Science and Arts (LSA) and then re-apply for admission into the Ross School of Business for the three years of continuous, full-time enrollment. (Students may consider the LSA program as businesses value a well-rounded experience as outlined in the LSA Distribution List on U of M's website. NMC's transfer guide to the LSA is here.)
  2. The Ross School of Business program requires three years of enrollment at U of M. Hence, obtaining an associates degree at NMC would not be recommended. However, we would recommend transferring the U of M credits back to NMC to complete an Associates Degree.
  3. Highly competitive transfer GPA of 3.5 is realistic.
  4. Application Deadline – March 31 at 8 p.m. online with transfer packet postmarked by June 1. There is only one admission cycle each year, and all admitted students start classes in the fall. Please review application process here.
  5. 2.0 or better grades are required for transfer consideration but higher than a 2.0 is required for admission.
  6. The following requirements must be completed to be considered for transfer admission, go here for U of M's outline.
    1. Complete the equivalent of U of M Ann Arbor's courses in First-Year Writing (ENG 112 at NMC), Economics 101 (ECO 202 at NMC) and Calculus I, II or III (MTH 141, 142 or 241 at NMC).
    2. Earn 27 transferrable credits with a 2.0 or better by June 1.
  7. Direct inquiries to (734) 763-5796.

Basic Requirements

The following courses are listed to facilitate transfer and fulfill distribution requirements at U of M. These courses may not fulfill requirements for the Associate of Arts or Science degree at NMC. If your goal is to complete an Associate degree before transferring, see an advisor for assistance.

If you choose to complete the requirements for ASA/MTA, please confer with an Academic Advisor at NMC. One completed, you may request at the NMC Records and Registration Office that a statement be placed on your transcript, "MICHIGAN TRANSFER AGREEMENT (MTA) SATISFIED".

Ross School Of Business Transfer Guide

Transferrable credits:To be considered a transfer student you must have 27 credits that transfer to U of M. Please view the website here to find courses that are considered transferrable. You can also find the Distribution Requirements here to keep your options open to the programs in the LSA.

NMC's College Algebra and Trig (MTH 121 and 122 = Pre-Calculus) do not transfer to UofM. If you are not prepared to take Calculus I (MTH 141) at NMC, you may wish to apply to LSA and complete Pre-calculus (Math 105) and Calculus I at UofM. In this way, your Pre-Calculus class will count toward your degree at UofM.

Northwestern Michigan College does not assume final responsibility for the accuracy of information on this guide. The final responsibility for the successful transfer of classes suggested on this guide rests with you and the institution you plan to transfer to. It is strongly recommended that you visit the institution as early in your academic career (prior to transfer) as possible.
