WMU offers three career preparation options in Aviation Flight Sciences:
- Flight Science: Certified Pilot Training degree program prepares students for a career as a professional pilot. The Flight Science major has several requirements for access to flight courses:
- A Chief Flight Instructor-approved application for each ground school and flight lab;
- An FAA 2nd class medical and student pilot certificate (1st class is recommended);
- Enrollment in flight theory courses is subject to a minimum grade point average of 2.5 for community college students and a 2.0 for transfers from other 4 colleges and/or universities;
- Availability of aircraft and instructors.
- Maintenance Technology: Prepares students for a variety of positions in aircraft maintenance including such areas as performance testing, engineering maintenance liaison, maintenance logistics, flight test engineering, product technical support and aircraft maintenance engineering. Satisfactory completion of the program requirements prepares students to take the Airframe and Powerplant licensing exam from the Federal Aviation Administration.
- Management and Operations: Prepares students for sales, service, production and general aviation management.
The College of Aviation has now partnered with the U.S. Air Force (MSU ROTC base) to offer all WMU students the opportunity to enroll in the Air Force ROTC program while attending WMU. This will provide the opportunity for WMU students to become Air Force officers while earning their degrees at WMU.
A study abroad program with Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia is available through WMU's Haenicke Institute for Global Education. This university is Australia's premier pilot training college. Focus of Swinburne is on air transportation for commercial piloting and air transportation management.
Basic Requirements
Completion of the BASIC requirements as listed at NMC will fulfill most of the general requirements at WMU. WMU requires two additional General Education courses at the 300–400 level to be taken at WMU plus an upper level writing requirement (Proficiency #2 at WMU). Upon request at the NMC Records Office, a statement will be placed on your transcript, "MICHIGAN TRANSFER AGREEMENT (MTA) SATISFIED".
Completing this guide will not necessarily complete an associate's degree at NMC. Consult with an advisor if an associate's degree is desired.

NOTE: MTH 121 College Algebra and MTH 122 Trigonometry OR MTH 140 College Algebra and Trigonometry (Pre-Calc) are pre-requisites for MTH 141. Do not take only MTH 121 at NMC as WMU does not offer a stand-alone Trig class and you will have to take Pre-Calculus at WMU (thus repeating the content of MTH 121).
