The department of Physician Assistant offers a Master of Science in Medicine in Physician Assistant. In preparation at WMU, students will pursue the Physician Assistant track in the Bachelors of Science, Interdisciplinary Health Services to prepare to apply for admission to the graduate degree program. This guide contains courses recommended for the Interdisciplinary Health Services BS and Prerequisites for the PA Program. Courses that are specific requirements for the PA program are listed under Admission Criteria and marked with an * throughout the guide.

Admission Criteria

  1. Completion of WMU application process. See the PA Application site.
  2. Satisfactory completion of the following courses with a grade of "C" or better:
    1. *BIO 208/L – Microbiology
    2. *BIO 227/L – Anatomy & Physiology I
    3. *MTH 131 – Probability and Statistics
    4. *PSY 211 – Developmental Psychology (PSY 101 pre-requisite at NMC)
  3. Additional WMU course work will be required for admission to the PA program (*BIOS 3500 Physiology & *CHEM 3550 Biochemistry - see CHM pre-requisites for CHEM 3550 later in guide).

Basic Requirements

Completion of the BASIC requirements as listed at NMC will fulfill most of the general requirements at WMU. WMU requires two additional General Education courses at the 300-400 level to be taken at WMU plus an upper level writing requirement (Proficiency #2 at WMU). Upon request at the NMC Records Office, a statement will be placed on your transcript, "MICHIGAN TRANSFER AGREEMENT (MTA) SATISFIED".
