We offer several ways to help you afford your education and training.

The academy start date is in late August (no Spring or Summer starts). After the online application is submitted, you will be prompted to submit required supplemental items. Item requirements vary dependent on the applicant:

  • High School or GED transcripts (all applicants)
  • College, CLEP and/or AP transcripts (if applicable)
  • Physical - CG-719K (all applicants)
  • Two letters of recommendation/reference (all applicants) from a supervisor, counselor, coach, instructor or mentor (no relatives).
  • Math and English placement. Placement is obtained through one or more of the following:
    • Applicants that have taken a standardized test within 5 years are required to submit their ACT (school code 1978) and/or SAT (school code 6982) scores.
    • College, CLEP tests and/or AP transcripts may provide placement (this will be determined once your transcripts have been received/evaluated)
    • Remote/virtual placement testing is available to all applicants to obtain and/or improve placement. Contact your admissions representative for information.
  • DD-214 (veterans only)
  • Optional: attend a virtual information or in-person visit. Admitted cadets are required to complete a visit prior to starting the program.
  • Other items may be required based on your application.

Important Dates and Deadlines:

There is no fee to apply. We encourage early completion of your application. Please contact the Maritime Admissions Office if you have any questions, have not received communications or are having difficulties at (231) 995-1213.

  • Applications open 1 year in advance of start (new class starts each August).
  • Once an application is submitted, you will be sent a list of supplemental items that will be required in order to complete your application.
  • Once an application is complete, a decision will be granted in accordance with the following timeline:
    • Applications complete by November 1 are given a decision by November 15.
    • Applications complete by February 1 are given a decision by February 15.
    • Applications complete after February 1 will be given an admission decision on a rolling basis.
  • "Undecided Applicants" must choose a program prior to their applications being reviewed.
