Family Sickness-Emergency Leave Policy

Faculty and staff on annual appointments may use up to 12 paid work days per year, with the year based on the employee's anniversary date, for the purpose of family sickness or emergency, with such time deducted from the employee's sick leave accrual.  The family is defined as spouse, children, children-in-law, siblings, parents, parents-in-law, and other relatives living in the employee's home.

If an employee is on an approved Family Medical Leave (FMLA) to care for a family member (spouse, child, or parent) in accordance with the federal FMLA guidelines and as outlined in Policy D-722.00, the employee may use their full sick leave accrual as family sickness/emergency leave.  The Family Medical Leave must be approved by Human Resources in order to facilitate the extended use of this benefit.
