Join Us for A Screening of 'The Young Vote' to Celebrate Constitution Day on September 17
In honor of Constitution Day, NMC Library and the NMC Student Government Association are hosting a screening of Diane Robinson's documentary film, The Young Vote, which follows a diverse group of students and activists across the country during the 2020 election to understand their perceptions of voting and civic engagement.
The film takes you street-level alongside young passionate activists from California, Florida, Kentucky, and Texas as they challenge barriers to civic participation so their voices and the voices of their peers will be heard. It’s a story about unleashing civic power, shaping the future of America, and preserving the promise of democracy.
Join us from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 in TJNIC 106 on the first floor of the Innovation Center. Accompanied by free Detroit style pizza and cheese sticks!
Library Adds wide Range of Tools, Tech & Games to Growing 'Library of Things' Collection
Next time you come to the library, you might leave not just with a book, but a board game too – or a disc golf set, a musical instrument, or even a telescope!
This spring saw the launch of our new 'Library of Things' collection, an experiment in embracing a broader notion of the kinds of resources libraries can steward for their communities. We introduced the collection with a game night in February so folks could try out the many board games now available for checkout at the library.
In the months since, we have asked students, faculty, and staff for their input about what we should add to this new Library of Things as it expands. Based on your suggestions, the collection continues to grow, adding everything from a selection of lawn games to binoculars to a sewing machine — all yours to borrow free of charge with your NMC ID!
