TEDxTraverseCity goes virtual! Because of these unprecedented times, TEDxTraverseCity was offered in an online platform in 2020. A livestream event helped keep our community safe while we celebrated ten years of bringing ideas worth spreading to Traverse City. Our tenth TEDxTraverseCity provided another excellent opportunity for our community to be inspired and challenged. TEDxTraverseCity’s 2020 event examined the timely concept of RETHINKING OUR HEALTH.

NMC is proud to host TEDxTraverseCity, an independently organized TED event, at the Dennos Museum Center's Milliken Auditorium. As an institution of higher learning, NMC's mission, vision, values and strategic directions align well with the TED organization's mission to promote “ideas worth spreading”.

NMC is a Catalyst Partner for the event along with founding co-partner FIM Group. The Traverse City event grew out of a mutual regard by former NMC President Timothy Nelson and FIM Group founder Paul Sutherland for the powerful TED event. Through this much anticipated community event, we honor innovators who have passion, curiosity, creativity and adaptability to change the world with revolutionary ideas.

In 2015, TEDxTraverseCity celebrated its fifth anniversary, again playing to a “packed house” in the Milliken. The event has grown over the years to include a simulcast location at the Traverse City State Theatre as well as offering live feeds to the TCAPS high schools. The goal is to be as inclusive as possible to fully engage the community in this inspiring and thought-provoking event.

In addition to serving as host for the live venue, NMC seeks to engage members of our college community by offering a free simulcast location on main campus. Students are also encouraged to participate in TEDxTraverseCity. Since the inaugural year, faculty have been asked to nominate deserving NMC students who are then selected to receive a free ticket to attend the event at the Milliken.
