NMC is now in Stage 2 of its reopening plan. This plan is designed to limit the spread of COVID-19 while allowing the College to meet the needs of our learners and continue important business functions. Stage 2 allows for services by appointment only and some small lab classes to be performed on campus following the College’s safety guidelines. Work that can be done remotely, should continue to be performed remotely. Read more here.


June 1, 2020

Governor Whitmer lifted the Stay Home, Stay Safe Order, reopening the state and moving Michigan to phase 4 of the MI Safe Start Plan. At this time, NMC will continue its limited reopening while finalizing safety protocols so we can expand reopening efforts in the future. NMC campuses remain closed to the public for the time being. May 26, 2020

As our state continues efforts to mitigate the health impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has extended the Stay Home, Stay Safe order through June 12. To support this effort, and comply with the order, Northwestern Michigan College will extend the closure of all five of its campuses in Traverse City through June 12. Read more here.


May 18, 2020

This afternoon Governor Whitmer announced some businesses in northern Michigan will be allowed to re-open Friday as the state continues its phased approach to opening the state following a decline in new COVID-19 cases. Schools remain closed and there is no guidance for institutions of higher education. NMC’s campuses will remain closed until further notice while the College continues to develop plans to return to campus work and face-to-face learning safely. Read more here.


May 8, 2020

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has extended the Stay Home, Stay Safe order again, to May 28. To support this effort, and comply with the order, NMC will extend the closure of all five of its campuses. Read NMC's employee communication on the extension.
