Sex Offender Registry

In accordance to the Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act of 2000, Northwestern Michigan College is providing a link to the Michigan State Police Sex Offender Registry. The act requires institutions of higher education to issue a statement advising the campus community where law enforcement information provided by a state concerning registered sexual offenders may be obtained. In Michigan, convicted sex offenders must register with the Sex Offender Registry.

The Michigan State Police are responsible for maintaining this registry. Follow the link below and find the Sex Offender Registry under the Services tab:

Timely Warnings

Northwestern Michigan College is required to issue a timely warning for crimes that have occurred and represent an ongoing threat. We will issue a timely warning for any crime committed on our campus that has been reported to Campus Security or local law enforcement and is considered by the college to represent a serious or continuing threat to students and employees.

The following is an example of a possible use for a Timely Warning:

Example: "Local law enforcement has contacted the campus and advised that a lot of cars in the area have been broken it to. They are advising not to store your property in plain view. Take all of your property into a secure location."

NMC has various systems in place for communicating information. Some or all of these methods of communication may be activated in the event of an immediate threat to the NMC campus community.

These methods of communication include the Code Red Emergency Alert System, phone alerts and computer alerts. The college may post and provide updates during a critical incident on social media and the NMC web site.

All students and employees are encouraged to sign up for the Emergency Alert System and indicate which method(s) they wish to use for notification. To sign up, log in to your NMC Self-Service account. Click on the "Personal Information" tab, then "Text message opt-in" and follow the instructions.
