Congrats, Hawk Owl!
Welcome to NMC
Welcome to NMC! This page has a lot of important information for you as an admitted student. It’s organized in order so it’s easy to come back to if you can’t get it all done at once. Let’s go!
-
Setting up myNMC (about 10–15 minutes)
- myNMC is your student portal, where you can access all things NMC, including email, registration, billing and more. To keep your information secure, NMC uses multi-factor authentication. When setting up your account you should have two devices, like a laptop and a cell phone, as well as a paper and pencil.
- Call the Help Desk at (231) 995-3020. You can also chat with the Help Desk online.
- You won’t receive your initial password by email or mail. It’s up to you to call or chat with the Help Desk. It’s open regular business hours.
-
Understanding NMC communication
- Until classes start, check both your NMC email and your personal email (the one you used when you applied) for important info.
- If you don’t see messages from admissions@nmc.edu in your personal email, check the spam folder to make sure they’re allowed to go through.
- After the semester begins, make it a habit to check your NMC email at least once a day.
-
Sign up for Orientation (Less than 5 minutes)
- All new-to-NMC students are required to attend orientation before you can register for classes. (If you were a student at NMC previously, you’re welcome to attend, but not required to do so.)
- In-person and online sessions are available. Choose your session here.
- In person (4 hours): Strongly encouraged for the best experience! Check in, Resource Fair, presentation, meet with an advisor and register for classes. Optional campus tour.
- Online (60 minutes): Watch a 30-minute video between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on the day selected, AND attend a 30 minute drop-in Zoom advising/registration session between 3–6 p.m. the same day.
- Once signed up, check your personal email (the one you entered when applying) for a confirmation message.
- A campus tours is available on in-person orientation day. Virtual tours are also available. Parking is free. You can also take BATA for free.
-
Determine your placement (5 minutes)
- Depending on your program, you might benefit from English and math placement to be sure that you’re in the class that best fits your abilities. Starting in the right place can save you time and money.
- You can check your math and English placement by logging in to NMC Self-Service using your NMC ID and password. Select “Student Records” and then “View Your Academic Transcript”.
- If your transcript shows “placement needed”, here’s how to do so.
- To help determine your placement, you can send in SAT or ACT scores and prior college transcripts if available. This benefits you in matching you to the classes that best fit your abilities.
- If required, placement testing should be completed before your orientation session. Testing can take up to two hours.
- Questions about placement? Contact admissions@nmc.edu or call (231) 995-1054.
