English Placement Guide
Effective For Spring 2025 Enrollment
Because students may place into their English courses using a number of measures, we recommend using the English Placement Flowchart when working with individual students. This document is best used for general information and comparison of multiple measures.
- ACT, SAT and GED test scores and HS GPA do not expire.
- The writing sample and survey is an option for students who:
- Graduated from high school 3+ years ago OR
- Have a high school GPA of at least 3.0
- The measure that achieves the highest placement for the student will be used.
- If a student cannot be placed using another measure, the writing sample and survey will be used to determine placement.
- Students who have not yet graduated from high school are not eligible to be placed using the writing sample and survey.
