Spring 2016 marked the the 5th annual Sweet Earth Arts & Music Festival!

Sweet Earth Arts and Music Festival is an all inclusive Earth Day celebration for our dynamic Northern Michigan community. Through a dialogue with music, art and interactive activities, attendees learn about environmental issues of global importance and are connected with ways to take action locally.

Oh Brother Big SisterEach year we invite regionally based musicians to perform at the celebration. The 2016 lineup included Oh Brother Big Sister (Frederic), Charlie Millard (Alanson), The Drinkard Sisters (Detroit), Third Coast Kings (Detroit) and The Ragbirds (Ann Arbor). There was also a special spoken word poetry performance by Maya James and a hip-hop performance by Mark Wilson!

We also had a variety of hands-on activities for people and children of all ages including a science corner for kids, seed-ball making, a compost worm petting zoo, an arts and crafts table using recyclable materials, and more! And returning for the second year in a row was our Sweet Earth Artist Market featuring some of the many talented artisans in Northern Michigan.

Third Coast KingsSweet Earth is a celebration filled with creative expression that plants the seed of environmental consciousness and provides the resources to help it grow. Because of all of the amazing support in past years from the community, the 2016 festival took place at the Hagerty Center on NMC’s Great Lakes Campus where there was more space for extra celebration and fun — and a huge bonus, it overlooks the beautiful West Bay!
