Program Outcomes

The Associate Degree Nursing program at Northwestern Michigan College strives to provide quality educational programs through continuous program assessment. Faculty review all program outcomes on a regular basis and make adjustments as needed. The following student achievement data are used to assess the ADN program outcomes.

NCLEX-RN Pass Rates: The goal of the nursing faculty is to be at or above 80% as reported by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) for all students who take the National Council Licensure Exam-RN (NCLEX) for the first time. Scores from 7/1/2017 through 12/31/2017 were 92.31%, however, from 1/1/2018 through 6/30/2018 they dropped to 72.09%. Scores from 7/1/2018 through 12/31/2018 increased to 88.24%. As a result, the 12-month pass rate for 2018 dropped to 76.67%.

Program Completion Rates: The goal of the nursing faculty is for at least 70% of the NMC graduates of the ADN program to graduate within 150% of the program length. This equates to 6 semesters once they enter the nursing program. During the 2016–17 academic year, we lost 15 of 77 students. A few of the reasons included: medical, family, financial, unsuccessful in course work, chose not to reenroll after first unsuccessful attempt, and relocation.

As of Fall 2017, job placement rates are evaluated through student reporting and faculty observation at the time of graduation. Prior to Fall 2017, job placement rates were evaluated through a graduate survey distributed 6 months after graduation. The method changed due to low survey response rates.
