Program Outcomes

The Practical Nursing program at Northwestern Michigan College strives to provide quality educational programs through continuous program assessment. Faculty review all program outcomes on a regular basis and make adjustments as needed. The following student achievement data are used to assess the PN program outcomes.


NCLEX-PN Pass Rates:
The goal of the nursing faculty is to be at or above 80% as reported by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) for students who take the National Council Licensure Exam-PN (NCLEX) for the first time.

Program Completion Rates
: The goal of the nursing faculty is for at least 70% of the NMC graduates of the PN program to graduate within 150% of the program length. This equates to 3 semesters once they enter the nursing program.

Job Placement Rates
: The goal of the nursing faculty is for at least 80% of the NMC graduates of the PN program who seek employment in nursing will be successful. As of Fall 2017, job placement rates are evaluated through student reporting and faculty observation at the time of graduation. Prior to Fall 2017, job placement rates were evaluated through a graduate survey distributed 6 months after graduation. The method changed due to low survey response rates.
