
Online Learning Options
NMC offers both courses and programs online. Courses range from completely online to online with proctored testing to a blend of online and on-campus delivery (Hybrid). Courses are accessed using NMC's learning management system, Moodle »
Online Learning Orientation
Students taking an online class at NMC for the first time and students who have not completed an online course at NMC with a 2.0 grade or better will be required to complete an Online Learning Orientation (OLO) course. Upon completion of the course, students will receive a badge and will gain access to currently enrolled online course(s). Students who have successfully completed an online course at NMC in the past will not be required to earn the badge.
The Online Learning Orientation is completed in Moodle, NMC’s learning management system, and can be completed in approximately 60 minutes. Need help? Contact the Moodle help desk at (231) 995-1070.
Learning Options
Courses at NMC are offered in the following formats:
Lecture courses:
Occur face-to-face in an on-campus environment. Instructors use Moodle for the course syllabus and gradebook or other resources to supplement instruction.
Online courses:
These asynchronous courses are online. Students are responsible for logging in to Moodle to complete assignments and activities by specific dates. Online courses may also have online proctored testing and/or proctored exams at a licensed testing center.
Hybrid courses:
These blend online and/or livestream delivery using Zoom and/or face-to-face. Most course activities are done in Moodle, but there may be some required face-to-face instructional activities such as lectures and labs. Licensed testing center proctored exams may be required. Please refer to the special instructions on the schedule for the class for more information.
Livestream courses:
These synchronous courses meet during a regularly scheduled time via a web conferencing tool like Zoom. Moodle is used to distribute materials, submit assignments, track grades, and share feedback. On-campus proctored exams may be required. Please refer to the special instructions on the schedule for the class for more information.

*Some MCO coursework may be required to complete a program completely online. In addition, students placing into developmental Math or English may need to complete classes on-campus or using the MCO.

NC-SARA is a voluntary, regional approach to state oversight of postsecondary distance education. Residents of California are not eligible to enroll in online courses offered by NMC.
